The Alabama Humanities Alliance brings Smithsonian traveling exhibits to the state thanks to a partnership with the Smithsonian’s Museum on Main Street. The program provides access to the Smithsonian for small-town American through traveling museum exhibitions, research, educational resources, and public programming.
Since 1997, the Alabama Humanities Alliance has partnered with the Smithsonian’s Museum on Main Street to bring a dozen national exhibits to Alabama — and to 65 communities across the state.
Alabama Humanities could not be prouder to help add Alabama’s voices to the Smithsonian's Many Voices, One Nation exhibit — highlighting the people, places, stories, and events that have shaped local communities, from past to present.
Many Voices, One Nation
Spark! explores the unique combination of places, people, and circumstances that sparks innovation and invention in rural communities across our nation. This Smithsonian traveling exhibit tours Alabama from June 2025 through March 2026.

In 2023-2024, Crossroads looked at the evolution of rural life over the past century — exploring how Americans have responded and adapted. This exhibit visited five Alabama towns: Cleveland, White Hall, Roanoke, Triana, and Ozark.
