The Statue of Liberty is a cherished symbol of American democracy, yet there’s a lot of mystery
about her background. This program explores what motivated the idea, key people who influenced
the project, changes to the design as it developed, the complicated funding of the project, and
public reaction to the statue and its grand unveiling.
