AHA at 50

Join the Alabama Humanities Alliance throughout 2024 as we celebrate a half-century of telling Alabama's stories!

For 50 years, storytelling has remained at the heart of who we are and what we do. When we explore the humanities — our history, literature, culture, art, and more — what we’re really doing is getting to know each other better. We’re sharing, and listening, to each other’s stories. We’re linking the past to the present. And we’re discovering the common ground, and the common humanity, that binds us all.

Check this page often throughout 2024! You’ll find opportunities to celebrate our first 50 years (join us for our year-end celebration in Birmingham on December 2!), participate in upcoming programs, and discover new storytelling series. We also hope you’ll donate to AHA’s “$500K for 50” campaign and help us tell Alabama’s stories for another 50 years — and beyond.

AHA at 50

This year, we gathered some of our partners, grant recipients, and allies to discuss the humanities’ impact in Alabama. Hear from Alabamians who have worked with us to lift up their communities, strengthen our democracy, and make our state an ever smarter, kinder, and more vibrant place to live.

Funding the next 50 years

Our 50th anniversary isn’t just a time to reflect; it’s a chance to build a foundation for the next 50 years. Your donation to our $500K for 50 Campaign will help our programs reach more Alabamians statewide — and sustain the humanities in Alabama for generations to come.
