The Shooting Down of Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto

- Haulman, Daniel L.
The fascinating 1943 mission that shot down the aircraft of Japanese Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto is of great interest not only to students of World War II history but also to the general public. Yamamoto planned the Pearl Harbor attack and was one of the most important of Japan's naval strategists. His death affected Japanese military operations immensely.

This presentation will highlight the American pilots who were responsible for the Yamamoto mission, and the Navy and Marine Corps officers on Guadalcanal who helped plan the mission. This talk will also cover the great controversy over which of the American fighter pilots actually shot down Yamamoto's plane, and how that controversy was resolved.
