What Black Women Want You to Know: The Literary History of Art and Racial Healing in Alabama

- Green, Salaam*
This presentation addresses contemporary and historic effects of racism in the Deep South. It is an exploration of literature featuring perspectives from African American women and literary artists influenced by the history of Alabama’s diverse literary culture. Art and racial healing as a practice is about community-based sustainable change; Green's racial healing work is informed by the Truth, Racial Healing & Transformation program, a comprehensive, national, and community-based process to plan for and bring about community transformations and sustainable change. She will share information about that program and its applications and outcomes in Alabama communities.
