Join our grantee Valley Arts and Entertainment for Tracing the Cultural and Historical Influence of Alabama Women Musicians a conversation about Tuscaloosa-born singer and pianist Dinah Washington, one of the most popular African American recording artists of the 1950s and often called the "Queen of the Blues." This historical presentation will delivered by scholar Kristin Atkins, niece of Dinah Washington, and Ms. Clarissa Smith (85 years old sister of Dinah Washington) and moderated by William Hampton, founder of the Huntsville Revisited Program. Atkins will have on exhibit personal memorabilia and information about Washington. As a special treat, family members will travel from Chicago to Alabama to celebrate Dinah Washington's lasting impact on music.
