Allison Upshaw, Ph.D., an AHA Road Scholar and an expert on Black music, will share information on Ed Bell. Bell, a little-known musician born in Fort Deposit, who has been credited as the most influential Alabama artist in pre-war blues recordings. Throughout the presentation, we'll listen to some of Ed Bell’s discography and examine the characteristics of the Piedmont style as compared to the Delta style of Blues.
This program complements the showing of the "Crossroads: Change in Rural America" exhibit that is on display at the Lowndes Interpretive Center through December 9 -- presented by the Alabama Humanities Alliance and the Smithsonian’s Museum on Main Street Program.
