A symposium celebrating the history and legacy of Cherry Street AME in Dothan -- the Mother AME Church for the state of Alabama.
Historians, longtime church members, and a Pulitzer Prize-winning author will examine the church's place as a center of religious, cultural, and civic expression, as well as its relevance as a foundation for social change.
Speakers include John Archibald, a longtime columnist and son of a United Methodist preacher; Dr. Wilson Fallon, professor emeritus of history at the University of Montevallo; James Morgan III, a historian whose great-great grandfather was the second full-time pastor at Cherry Street; and Michael Riddle, board chair of Murals of the Wiregrass.
Free and open to all.
