This presentation tells the story of the German POW camp in Aliceville, Alabama, during WWII. It is based on my book of the same name (Crane Hill Publishers, 2008). This book received a bronze medal for outstanding historical writing from the Independent Publishers Group. Using archival photos and quotations from extensive interviews, the program tells the story of the impact of the camp on the townspeople, the MPEG guards sent to serve there, and the more than 6,000 German soldiers who spent time there. The timeline spans from WWII to the first reunion (1989) of former POWs and guards, and to the interactions among these two groups and the people of Aliceville. The Aliceville Museum is a popular travel destination in the state.
